Back when they released they had 2m, they also stated 500k players were logging in daily. You can't have 500k daily logins if the 2m number is total lifetime box sales (what we traditionally would call registered accounts).

Also the term 'tourists' isn't used correctly in this post. Back when WoW was a juggernaut, it's players would 'go on vacation' to a new MMO (like WAR), with no intention of staying (tourists). They would always return to WoW (home). The reason tourists were harmful back then was because some game devs would actually think they would keep said tourists if only they made change X or Y to their MMO, which in turn often pissed off the current players, while doing nothing to bring back or retain WoW tourists (they never intended to fully leave WoW).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5168597614461308610.post-48828239025795008662015-08-05T00:29:09.249-07:002015-08-05T00:29:09.249-07:00Yeah, I haven't heard 4 million subs ever for ...Yeah, I haven't heard 4 million subs ever for FFXIV. My post was not really directed at any one person. By the time I interacted with Iz I had already seen that same basic statement said a dozen different times in my twitter feed by diehard fans of League of Legends. I absolutely see Heroes of the Storm as the game for the rest of us, that for one reason or another didn't really enjoy League. I understand the whys and hows and the history of DoTA, I can remember playing it when it first came out and not really understanding what the enjoyment was in it. As a result it was not until my friends got into League a few years back that I even gave ANY MOBAs a try. I assumed it was simply a genre that was "not for me", then HotS came along and proved me apparently wrong. It won't be a game I play as much as my MMOs but it is still something that is extremely fun to play with friends. The fact that I can completely turn off in game chat is also a massively nice feature that I enjoy.Belghasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00894831901283379351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5168597614461308610.post-795828167467597932015-06-05T08:33:57.588-07:002015-06-05T08:33:57.588-07:00Noob comment, admittedly I haven't played HotS...Noob comment, admittedly I haven't played HotS (I keep reading that as 'Heart of the Swarm') & haven't played a LoL 5s in a long time, but if I'm understanding this right then HotS sounds like it's harder to troll. In HotS the answer is map gimmicks, which IMO is horrible, because in two years or so, are you still going to be as entertained by those map gimmicks and how they decide games? Basic on how often LoL rotates gimmick maps, and the trend each time for those maps to lose popularity quickly, my suspicion is no. Especially not when HotS is a Blizzard game, so we know content won't be coming quickly to mix up those gimmicks.

Plus gimmicks are cute when you are just derping around, but what happens when anyone wants to get more serious about HotS? How broken/abusive is the game going to be when top-level play is done across a large number of maps, each with gimmicks that favor certain champions? At a casual level the game gets boring quickly as 'mastery' is easy; at a top-tier level the game is going to be as comical and silly as Hearthstone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5168597614461308610.post-32459281133748191582015-06-04T22:00:36.615-07:002015-06-04T22:00:36.615-07:00Guardians of Middle-Earth, another MOBA I played f...Guardians of Middle-Earth, another MOBA I played for a time, and Awesomenauts both do not cater to last hitting. GoME ended up being very much like HotS, but had more elements that I enjoyed and was actually fun to play where HotS is not, but it failed for one reason or another.

Awesomenauts leaves the "solar" (currency) on the if you don't get the last hit, and you can still pick it up (or steal it from your opponent). Both are different mechanics I still enjoyed. This isn't something new, it just feels limiting. The extra depth will keep people coming back, and a lack of it leads to boredom. This is just my opinion of course, but I stand by it. Don't get me wrong I think a multiplayer game is a hell of a lot more fun with voice chat too but it seems Nintendo is weighing it's options and deciding that ensuring a safe space for kids in game is worth ditching that. They're targeting a specific market and I think people insisting on voice-chat are intentionally or not trying to drag them towards a different one.

That said, integrating skype or some sort of side service to the WiiU would be nice; solves the problem for ALL games.

And are "players that might as well be (better) bots" all that bad? I agree that mandatory voice chat needs to go away until we have better ways to clean up online communities, but a team-restricted, opt-in option should be there. Multiplayer games are significantly less fun to me when I can't chat in any way with my team of friends I have recruited/brought along for the experience. I agree with you though that Valve's implementation has thus far been reckless, to say the least.

I would prefer a way to donate directly to the mod's author. You could even make it "guilty" downloaders a bit by forcing them to adjust a slider before they can get the mod for free. I would even be okay if they could only donate Steam credit.

I want modders to be rewarded for their work. Just because someone operates something as a hobby, that doesn't mean they should receive SOME compensation for their efforts, especially significant ones like modding. However, charge specific amounts seems like a recipe for fraud and other bad behavior. Valve will really have to step up to police this better if they want to see something similar for other Steam games.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00289459451344261371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5168597614461308610.post-90489577930706913582015-03-06T16:34:02.819-08:002015-03-06T16:34:02.819-08:00Challenge accepted! http://talarian.blogspot.com/2...Challenge accepted! http://talarian.blogspot.com/2015/03/community-chains-liebster.htmlTalarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17684944568000522986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5168597614461308610.post-80640462877486945122015-02-25T22:42:08.985-08:002015-02-25T22:42:08.985-08:00I was just thinking this and I agree.
